Florence, 27 April 2010 – SIMMED, the Italian Society for Simulation in Medicine, was founded in Florence by the president and creator of the project Prof. Gian Franco Gensini, Dean of Medicine at the University of Florence.
The SIMMED collaborates with instructors certified by the Medical School of Harvard and the Simulation Centre of Tübingen. SIMMED has the following objectives:
- promoting cultural initiatives in innovation and training, which represent a strong basis for modern professional programs, especially in an highly specialized area, as the healthcare professions;
- using innovative methods with advanced and high impact technologies. These modern teaching techniques based on simulation systems are completely interactive “training” systems, based on the use of innovative educational resources, set in the context of a perfectly realistic clinical scenario;
- using systems featuring both macro and micro simulation, both “virtual reality” and “augmented reality”;
- proposing and implementing programs and research projects, developing hardware and software tools;
- producing training packages, information and updates, including CME courses, accredited by the Ministry of Health.
